Histoire administrative
La Section de Common Law est créée en 1957 à l'intérieur de la Faculté de droit. Cette unité scolaire est séparée de la Section de droit civil. Depuis 1962, elle nomme son propre doyen. La Section de Common Law offre un certain nombre de programmes outre celui de la licence en droit : licence avec spécialisation en droit, baccalauréat en droit, maîtrise en droit, diplôme spécialisé en études juridiques et doctorat.
Portée et contenu
Le fonds contient des documents portant sur les fonctions de la Section de Common Law. Il comprend des procès-verbaux : du Conseil de la Section (1957-1962, 1966-1990), du Conseil de la Faculté (1978-1993), du Comité exécutif (1972-1983), du Comité du personnel enseignant (1970-1981, 1994-1999, 2001-2004), du Comité du personnel de soutien (1985-1986). Il contient également un rapport annuel (1970), des demandes au Sénat (1966-1988), des demandes au Bureau des Gouverneurs (1982-1986) et des règlements (1971-1972). Il contient également des albums de finissants : Common Law yearbooks (1986-1988, 1996, 1998), des documents sur le Moot Court, des dossiers portant sur le Human Rights Research and Education Center, des dossiers sur le centre : Legal Aid ainsi que des dossiers sur le University of Ottawa Student Legal Aid Society. On y retrouve également des horaires de cours (1967-1972, 1985), des syllabus ([1980], 1986-1987), des statistiques (1973-1998), des questionnaires d'examens (1957-1970, 1973-1985), de la correspondance, diverses publications dont : Ottawa Law Review (1966-1982) et le journal étudiant : Caveat (1969-1981, 1988-1989). Le fonds regroupe une importante collection de négatifs et de diapositives des mosaïques des diplômés (1957-1958, 1961, 1963-1972, 1975, 1980, 1982-1986, 1989-1992) ainsi que les photos individuelles de ces mosaïques et quelques cassettes audio.

Administrative history
In 1957, the University establishes a Common Law Section academically separate from the Section de droit civil within the Faculty of Law. Since 1962, the Section has its own dean. The Section offers a number of programs in addition to LL.L.: a special LL.L.-LL.B. program, a Masters in Law, a Diploma Specialized in Legal Studies and a Doctorate.
Scope and content
The fonds contain files which document the functions of the Common Law Section. It includes minutes of: Section council (1957-1962, 1966-1990), Faculty council (1978-1993), Executive Council (1972-1983), Teaching Staff Committee (1970-1981, 1994-1999, 2001-2004) and Support Staff Committee (1985-1986). It also includes an annual report (1970), requests to the Senate (1966-1988), requests to the Board of Governors (1982-1986) and by-laws (1971-1972). It contains Common Law yearbooks (1986-1988, 1996, 1998), material on Moot Courts, files relating to the Human Rights Research and Education Center, files on the Legal Aid Center and on the University of Ottawa Student Legal Aid Society. Timetables (1967-1972, 1985), course outlines ([1980], 1986-1987), statistics (1973-1998), exam questionnaires (1957-1970, 1973-1985), correspondence, miscellaneous publications including: Ottawa Law Review (1966-1982) and student newspaper: Caveat (1969-1981, 1988-1989) can also be found. The fonds also regroups an important collection of negatives and slides of the composite pictures of the graduate (1957-1958, 1961, 1963-1972, 1975, 1980, 1982-1986, 1989-1992) as well as the individual photographs of those composite pictures and a few audiocassettes.
