Histoire administrative
Le Département des sciences religieuses est créé en 1957, à la Faculté des arts, sous le nom de Département de religion. En 1966, il devient le Département des sciences religieuses et offre un baccalauréat avec spécialisation, une maîtrise et un doctorat. En 1987, le Département adopte une approche pluridisciplinaire pour l'étude des religions, utilisant les perspectives historiques, sociologiques, psychologiques et littéraires afin d'en arriver à une compréhension globale des peuples par leurs croyances religieuses. Le Département des sciences religieuses est fusionné au Département des études anciennes en juillet 1996 à la suite d'une résolution du Sénat (95-96.21)pour devenir le Département d'études anciennes et de sciences des religions, donc le Département, tel que décrit dans sont mandat, est aboli.
Portée et contenu
Le fonds contient des dossiers internes sur les fonctions du Département des sciences religieuses. Il comprend des procès-verbaux : du Département (1969-1985), du Comité des études religieuses (1966, 1980-1989), de l'Assemblée départementale (1969-1980, 1985-1995), du Comité du personnel enseignant (1987-1995) et un rapport annuel (1967-1968). Il contient également le bulletin du Centre de recherche sur les femmes et les religions (1988-1992, 1995), un guide de l'étudiant (1969-1970), des horaires (1966-1970), un syllabus de cours (1975) et diverses publications. La collection : Religions et Croyances est classée dans le fonds des Presses de l'Université (Fonds 82).

Administrative history
The Department of Religious Studies is established in 1957 in the Faculty of Arts as the Department of Religion. In 1966, it changes its name to the Department of Religious Studies and begins offering an Honors B.A., a M.A., and Ph.D. In 1987, the Department takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of religion using the perspectives of historical, sociological, psychological, and literary studies to arrive at a comprehensive understanding of people as religious beings. The Department of Religious Studies is amalgamated to the Department of Classical Studies in July 1996 following a Senate motion (95-96.21), there for, abolishing the Department as described in its original mandate. The new department was named Department of Classics and Religious Studies.
Scope and content
The fonds contain files which document the functions of the Department of Religious Studies. It includes minutes: of the Department (1969-1985), of the Committee on Religious Studies (1966, 1980-1989), of the Department Assembly (1969-1980, 1985-1995), of the Teaching Staff Committee (1987-1995) and an annual report (1967-1968). It also includes the Canadian Center for Research on Women and Religion Bulletin (1988-1992, 1995), a student guide (1969-1970), timetables (1966-1970), a course outline (1975) and miscellaneous publications. The collection: Religious and Belief is filed in the University Press Fonds (Fonds 82).
