Administrative history
A Data Processing Centre is established at the University in 1958 in the Department of Mathematics. The new $250,000 electronic brain is used by teaching and research units at the University and by government organizations. The Department is in charge of the Centre until 1967. After that the Centre reports to Vice-Rector (Administration). In 1989, the Data Processing and the Academic Computing Centre are amalgamated into one department, Computing and Communications Services (?) reporting to the Vice-President (Administration and Services). After 2002, it reports to the Vice-President (Resources). On February 4th, 2015, the service announces taht it will be known as the Information Technology to better reflect societal trends and to eliminate confusion with the Communications Directorate.
Scope and content
The fonds contain files which document the functions of Computing and Communications Services. It includes minutes (1967-1969), one annual report (1965), Computing Center committees reports (1968-1970), programs of the seminaries and workshops (1988-2005), publications including: Bulletin, Service de l'informatique et des communications [1988-1990], Bulletin, Magasin Informatique Universitaire (1992), Computing Bulletin d'informatique (1992-1993, 1995), Applications Bulletin (1986-1987), directories (1993-2004), memorandums (1995-2002) and many publications.
