Administrative history

The Miscellaneous Document Collection is created in 1986 by the Archives of the University of Ottawa (AUO) to acquire documents from miscellaneous sources and not from the creators. One part, prior to 1990, is gathered by the AUO staff while doing research at other archival facilities and services. Another part comes from gifts and donations from alumni and people outside the University. The last part is purchased by other services at the University and the AUO.

Scope and content

This collection contains material relating to the activities, the alumni and life on campus. It includes brochures on the University of Ottawa (1889-1964) and material on carious subjects mainly: Acts of canonical visits (1891, 1957, 1964); various events (1877-1966); bilingualism, university sports, courses, the dynamics of the students and teachers (1970-1985); historical notes (1866-1977); the architecture at the University (1962-1991); the central administration (1968-1981); St. Patrick's College (1951-1982); coat of arms and logos (1902-1903, 1971-1993). The collection also includes a large number of photographs that trace back the expansion and evolution of the University and a photographic album of Father Guindon during his rectorship (1964-1984).

Restrictions: Documents containing confidential and personal information are restricted to consultation and reproduction.The records are submitted to the Copyright's Act.

La collection comprend des dossiers portant sur des activités, des anciens et la vie universitaire. Elle renferme des brochures portant sur l'Université (1889-1964) et des documents portant entre autres sur les sujets suivants : les visites canoniques (1891, 1957, 1964), diverses activités (1877-1966), le bilinguisme, les sports universitaires, les cours, la dynamique étudiante et professorale (1970-1985), des notes historiques, l'architecture à l'Université (1962-1991), l'administration (1968-1981), St. Patrick's College (1951-1982), les logos et armoiries (1902-1903, 1971-1993). La collection comprend également un nombre important de photographies qui retracent l'évolution et l'expansion de l’Université (1856-1965), et un album de photographies du père Roger Guindon pendant son rectorat (1964-1984).
