Administrative history

The Board of Governors was established by the University of Ottawa Act, 1965, or Bill 158, which was adopted on June 21st 1965 by the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario. It came into force on the 1st of July of the same year. The Board is the highest ranking administrative body of the University of Ottawa and is vested with the responsibility to govern the institution. It can appoint committees and delegate to them any of its powers. The Board of Governors may be composed of no more than 32 members. The faculty and the student body are allowed to elect two representatives each to the Board since the adoption of proposition 70.12 on March 23rd of 1970. For the first time, on December 1st 1970, members of both groups attended a meeting of the Board. Finally, proposition 77.6 for the Board of Governors allows members of the University’s support staff to be elected to the Board, they first attended a meeting on August 2nd of 1977.

Scope and content

The Board of Governors Fonds consists of minutes (1965-1999) and includes the official audited financial statements (1966-1996). It includes financial reports (1960-1966), correspondence and miscellaneous publications. The photos document various buildings on campus during the 1960s as well as a few major events.

Il comprend des rapports annuels (1973-1982), des règlements (1972-1978), des statistiques (1977-1981), des demandes au Bureau des gouverneurs (1973), des programmes des ateliers (1975-1980, 1983, 1986-1993), des lettres circulaires (1969-1992), un historique 1960-1978 (1993) et de la correspondance.
