Administrative history

The Department of Music was created in the Faculty of Arts in 1969, the same year the National Arts Centre was built in Ottawa. In fact, the Department was first conceived as a pedagogical extension of the Centre. It is the only institution in the National Capital region to offer a complete gamut of musical studies leading to degrees in performance, musicology, music theory, composition, and music education. Individual instruction is given in all the orchestral instruments as well as in voice, piano, organ, harpsichord, guitar, and recorder.

Scope and content

The fond contains files which document the functions of the Department of Music. It includes minutes (1975-1985), annual report (1969-1983) and yearbooks. It also 8 audio records : compact discs and 456 iconographic records : 87 photographs, 357 negatives and 18 contact sheets. Textile, artifact and poster material are described within the Artifact Collection, Textile Collection and Poster Collection inventories.

Restrictions: Documents containing confidential and personal information are restricted to consultation and reproduction. The records are submitted to the Copyright's Act.
