BOARD OF REGENTS FONDS. - 1948-1964. - 1 multimedia document.

Reference Number: 229

Administrative history

The Council of Administration of the University of Ottawa created a Board of Regents in 1948 to promote the cause of the University among laymen and to involve some of them in its administration. The Board was composed of seven members selected from the professional elite of Ottawa. The Regents acted mainly as consultants to the University. They advised the authorities on investments, acquisitions, and other financial matters. Furthermore, the Regents provided their expertise in relation to projects undertaken by the University. In 1960, the composition of the Board was extended to a maximum of 19 members, of which 15 were laymen. In addition to their former responsibilities, the Regents publicized the mission and accomplishments of the University and provided feedback to the authorities on the needs and views of the community. The Board of Regents was abolished in 1965 with the restructuring of the University.
