Administrative history

Eugène Gaulin was born on March 31, 1895. He studied medicine at Université Laval and at Université de Montréal, where he graduated in 1922. After studies in urology in Paris, Dr. Gaulin joined the staff of the Ottawa General Hospital in 1923. A second trip to Paris in 1928 was devoted exclusively to the study of urology and upon his return he participated in the development of the Department of Urology in the Ottawa General Hospital. He was a member of the Provisional Council which oversaw the creation of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 1945 and was named professor of urology in 1946. He remained at that position until his death in April 1958.

Scope and content

Correspondence of Dr. Eugène Gaulin relative to his role in the foundation of the Faculty of Medicine (1945-1950). Also includes a biography of Dr. Gaulin by his son, Pierre Gaulin (1978). A black and whirte photograph of Dr. Gaulin is also found in the holding.
