Administrative history

The Department of Geography is established in the Faculty of Arts in 1951 under the name of Institute of Geography. It becomes the Department of Geography in 1963, the Department of Geography and Regional Planning in 1973 and the Department of Geography again in 1979. The principal fields of the discipline and several schools of thought are represented in the Department: Geomorphology, Economic Geography, Cultural and Social Geography, Biogeography as well as Remote Sensing and Cartography. The Department also offers a program of graduate studies leading to a M.A. and Ph.D.

Scope and content

The fonds contain files which document the functions of the Department of Geography. It includes departmental minutes (1970-1973), minutes of the Teaching Staff Committee (1967-1973), minutes of the Support Staff Committee (1969), annual reports (1961-1973), exam questionnaires (1969-1972), course outlines (1969-1973), a collection of papers from the Department (1971-1981), correspondence, student guidebooks (1968-1977) and publications.
