Administrative history

In 1968, the Department of Fine Arts of the University of Ottawa starts offering courses in Theatre. In 1969, with the separation of the musical sector, the unit becomes the Department of Visual Arts and Theatre. On February 5, 1979, the Theatre sector becomes an independent department, following a decision of the Senate (resolution 78-79.63). The Department offers undergraduate programs, such as a BA. with concentration in Theatre, a BA. with concentration in Theatre combined with a certificate in arts administration, a BA. with Honours in Theatre and a BA. with Honours in Theatre and certificate in arts administration. Students of the Department can study the theory and practice of the theatrical art as well as pursue interests in theatrical research.

Scope and content

The fonds contain files which document the functions of the Department of Theater. It includes departmental minutes (1974-2001), correspondence, annual reports (1967-1987, 1992-1993), annual financial reports (1976-1985), copyrights contract (1972-1983), memorandums (1978-1979), course outlines [1981-1982], student guidebook (1973), production notes of the plays produced by the theater companies of the University : La Société dramatique de l'Université d'Ottawa (1958-1970), la Comédie des deux rives (1963, 1967-1993), the Drama Guild (1969-1993), the Unicorn theatre (1978-1993), workshop II (1973-1993), 4X4 theatre Co. (1979-1980), la Nouvelle Basoche (1996), Collegium musicum (1967-1968), OFY Groups (1974), Bancale (1978), Distinct Theater (1987-1997) and Projekt co. The fonds also contain documents concerning invited artists and companies. It contains an important collection of iconographic material and some videos.

Restrictions: Documents containing confidential and personal information are restricted to consultation and reproduction.The records are submitted to the Copyright's Act.

Il comprend des procès-verbaux départementaux (1974-2004), de la correspondance, des rapports annuels (1967-1987, 1992-1993), des rapports financiers annuels (1976-1985), des contrats de droits d'auteurs (1972-1983), des lettres circulaires (1978-1979), des syllabus de cours [1981-1982], un guide de l'étudiant (1973), les cahiers de production des pièces de théâtre produites par les troupes de théâtre de l'Université : La Société dramatique de l'Université d'Ottawa (1958-1970), la Comédie des deux rives (1963, 1967-2005), le Drama Guild (1969-2005), le Théâtre de la Licorne (1978-2003), le Théâtre 100 (1973-2003), la Troupe 4X4 (1979-1980) la Nouvelle Basoche (1966), Collegium musicum (1967-1968), OFY Groups (1974), Bancale (1978), Théâtre distinct (1987-1997) et la troupe Projekt (1978). Le fonds contient également des documents concernant des artistes et des troupes invitées. On retrouve également une importante collection de documents iconographiques et quelques vidéos.
