Administrative history

In 1969, the University establishes a Faculty of Management Sciences by merging the departments of Commerce (Faculty of Arts) and Public Administration (Faculty of Social Sciences) with the School of Hospital Administration. A Department of Operational Research is added in 1970. In 1977, the Faculty changes its name to Faculty of Administration. In 1979, the four departments of the Faculty are abolished in favor of programmes. The Faculty operates programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Faculty offers programmes in commerce, accounting, management and information systems, finance, human resources management, marketing, management science, and public policy and public management, international business, management, and management and information systems. In 1984, the Faculty initiates a co-operative programme in accounting and in management and information systems. At the graduate level, it offers courses leading to an M.B.A. and masters in Health Administration. In 2002, the Faculty of Administration becomes School of Management. Since May 8 2007, the School bares the name : Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa in honor of Ian Telfer chairman of Goldcorp Inc. of Vancouver, who donated 25 million dollars.
